Beyond Incarceration: The Policing of Black Women and Children Through the Child Welfare System

August 4 @ 2:45 pm - 4:15 pm

The War on Drugs, which resulted in mass incarceration, also had devastating impacts on women of color, who were, and continue to be, prosecuted in alarming rates in the family court and child welfare systems. This workshop presentation will explore the ways in which the child welfare system, like incarceration and policing, has functioned as a tool of government oppression, surveillance, intervention, and control over women of color and their families, circumventing both their reproductive and human rights.
